Report: Liverpool set to sign Moise Caicedo for £20m less than Brighton’s asking price in the January transfer window
According to reports, Liverpool could be able to sign Moises Caicedo for £20 million less than first estimated. Liverpool has only added Thiago Alcantara as a permanent central midfielder since 2018, and they are in urgent need of a change.
Naby Keita, who has endured a string of injuries throughout his stint at Anfield, appears destined to leave the club this summer. Jordan Henderson, Curtis Jones, and Thiago have all missed a lot of games due to injury, and James Milner, who just turned 37, has had his minutes limited due to fitness issues.
Jurgen Klopp is now without many options in the middle of the field, and the club’s top aim this summer is to sign Jude Bellingham. When it comes to signing the England superstar, they’ll have to outbid the likes of Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.
Even if Liverpool does win the race for his signing, Bellingham by himself is not going to turn around their midfield situation. According to reports, Liverpool will probably look to sign two midfielders in the upcoming season.
The Reds will have to do that without sporting director Ward, who announced earlier this season that he will be stepping down at the end of the campaign. He’s helped the club sign Luis Diaz and most recently Cody Gakpo while also overseeing negotiations on Mohamed Salah’s new contract.

Ward’s role in recruiting new players during the January transfer window is probably going to be his last, however there may be a chance for him to have one last impact on Klopp’s team. Liverpool and Caicedo have been linked for a while, but prior negotiations have been difficult for Brighton.
Previously, the south coast team wanted around £85 million for the Ecuadorian international. However, according to The Mirror, Brighton has lowered their asking price by £20 million this month, potentially helping Liverpool’s transfer chances.
Chelsea and Newcastle are both said to be interested, but Liverpool are reportedly just ‘as well-placed as their rivals’. Brighton CEO Paul Barber recently spoke about Caicedo’s future at the Amex Stadium, admitting he’s not received any official offers yet.
“I’m pleased to say we haven’t had any [offers],” Barber told CBS Sports. “Maybe they [Liverpool] haven’t got my email because I haven’t seen any.”
“I am not sure £42 million will even include the boots now, maybe just the laces. But joking aside, every player’s value is ultimately determined by the market. Graham’s comments were part in jest [Graham Potter said £42m would only get Caicedo’s boots] but part serious because Moises has been an exceptional player for us.”
