Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp underplays “crazy” suggestion the Reds could win quadruple
Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp has downplayed talk that his team could go on to win the Quadruple this season after winning the League Cup.
Klopp lifted his first domestic title at Anfield, following Sunday’s 11-10 penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea after a goalless 120 minutes.
Liverpool are six points behind league leaders Manchester City with a game in hand in the Premier League and will play Norwich City in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday.
The Reds are still in contention for the Champions League after taking a 2-0 lead back to Anfield in the second leg of their last-16 clash against Serie A champions Inter Milan.
However, the German thinks Liverpool are currently miles off achieving a Quadruple and won’t be thinking about it any time soon.
“No team in the history of English football has won the quadruple, right? That is because it is incredibly difficult,” said Klopp.
“We are still behind Manchester City (in the Premier League). We are not close to thinking about any crazy stuff like that.
“We are close to nothing at the moment. It is better people think we can do good things than we are useless but it is not important or helpful.
“We face a lot of good teams between now and the end of May. We just want to think about Norwich (in the FA Cup on Wednesday).”
Speaking on people talking about Liverpool achieving the Quadruple Klopp added: “I don’t see it as a compliment but it’s better people think we can do good things rather than be useless. We face a lot of good teams between now and end of May.”
Meanwhile, Andy Robertson has heaped praise on the second-choice goalkeeper, Caoihinm Kelleher following his performance in the finals of the League Cup.
“I was desperate for him to save one, especially when I knew mine was coming up. His pen was ridiculous. Penalty shootouts are horrible – when it gets to the end it’s lads that are the least confident,” Robertson said.
“It’s tough. But Caoimh’s penalty was different class. The most important thing was we won it, whatever way we were willing to do it, whatever way possible. It had to go to penalties and luckily we all scored ours.”
