Watch; Liverpool FC set for third signing of the summer as Jurgen Klopp ignores Trent Alexander-Arnold advice
Jurgen Klopp is expected to sign a new back-up for Trent Alexander-Arnold as Liverpool FC nears the end of their summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp has reportedly signed a new back-up for Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite the advise of a former Premier League star.
Since breaking into the senior team, the right-back has been a standout for Liverpool, only missing out on Klopp’s starting lineup due to injury or suspension.

Despite this, the England international will have stiff competition for a starting spot in the new season. That’s because, according to The Mirror, Liverpool and Aberdeen have ‘reached a deal’ to sign Calvin Ramsey.
Klopp is a ‘great admirer’ of the 18-year-old, and the Dons will earn a fee in the region of £4 million for him. Ramsey, who was awarded Scottish Football Writers’ Young Player of the Year last season, will complete his move to Anfield next week.
He’ll join the first-team squad right away, and Klopp says he’s not considering loaning him out.
That means he’ll be vying for the right-back berth with Alexander-Arnold, with Klopp overlooking former Aston Villa defender Gabby Agbonlahor in the process.
Klopp did not need to bring in a new player to back up Alexander-Arnold, according to Agbonlahor. Neco Williams and Joe Gomez, according to the former striker, could fulfill those responsibilities.
“It’s very difficult to know who’s out there who is going to come in for Trent Alexander-Arnold for limited game time.
“He’s never injured, if he’s injured for a month a season then Gomez is more than capable of filling in,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider in March.
“Then Henderson can be the one who gets on the ball and play those through balls to Mo Salah and Sadio Mane. I don’t think they need to sign another right-back.
“Gomez can do a job until Alexander-Arnold comes back. They might keep Neco Williams next season and not let him out on loan.”
Klopp will be hoping Ramsey can have the same influence as Kostas Tsmiakis at left-back, where he competes with Andy Robertson.
If not, Agbonlahor will have been proven correct in his assessment of Alexander-need Arnold’s for a backup plan.
