Liverpool tables £42.9m for Barcelona youngster as final decision is made
Liverpool’s striking unit has been strengthened by the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica. They should now focus on improving the midfield.
According to reports going in the Spanish media, the Reds are serious about signing Gavi from Barcelona and have even made an offer.
Last week, La Porteria stated that the Reds are willing to activate the £42.9 million clause, and have suggested a contract for the midfielder that will pay him far more than the Catalan club’s offer.
The decision on Gavi’s renewal is scheduled to be made today, according to Mundo Deportivo.
According to a reputable Spanish news source, the La Liga giants presented their offer to De La Pena, who then travelled to Sevilla to discuss the details with the midfielder’s parents.
According to reports, famous European teams such as Liverpool and Bayern Munich have made approaches, but the Spanish side believes they will be able to reach an agreement because the young sensation wants to stay.

De La Pena’s desire to discuss the proposition with his family, according to MD, suggests that he is happy with the terms. The envoy will meet with Barca management today, with the intention of concluding the renewal or at the very least announcing a principle agreement.
Gavi has already made 46 appearances for Barcelona’s senior team at the age of 17 and is regarded as far more essential than big-money recruit Frenkie De Jong. The Nou Camp outfit are willing to transfer the Dutch midfielder this summer, according to Sport (via The Faithful).
Under Luis Enrique’s tutelage, the youngster has already earned ten caps for Spain, and he has been particularly impressive in recent UEFA Nations League matches.
Liverpool has to upgrade its ageing midfield, which is why they are pursuing Gavi.
