“He is currently the best” Germany Legend heaps praise on Chelsea defender linked with a move away from the the club.

Former Germany and Bayern Munich star Jerome Boateng has identified Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger as the club’s best defender and currently one of Europe’s best.

Boateng, who currently plies his trade at League 1 side Lyon is noted as a Legendary defender in the books.

Rudiger has become a key member of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side, but his future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain.

Speaking to Kerry Hau, Boateng heaped praise upon Rudiger, who is heavily linked with a move away from the club.

When asked about the defender, he said: “For me, he is currently the best German defender and definitely among the top five in his position in Europe.”

Rudiger has been linked with a move to top European clubs including Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint Germain, and will be a free agent from next summer.

The 28-year-old reportedly wants a pay rise to around £200,000-a-week in his new contract while Chelsea, according to the report, are currently not prepared to offer him more than £150,000-a-week.

Despite the news surrounding the uncertainty of his future, Rudiger revealed that he is focused.

“The interest (from Bayern Munich) honours me,” he added. “That shows that I’ve done a few things right recently. said, Rudiger

“But I don’t let myself be distracted. I have an obligation to my club to perform well. I have to prove myself every game and not let myself be distracted by rumors. I make my decisions for myself. They don’t depend on anyone. I feel good where I am.”
