Liverpool ready to splash £20million on prolific Bundesliga forward in the January transfer window

According to the Spanish publication Nacional (via Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are “ready” to splash £20 million on Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram.

The Frenchman has the second-most goals in the Bundesliga this season only behind Christopher Nkunku due to his excellent form.

Marcus Thuram is the son of former French striker Lilian Thuram and has long been one of the best strikers in Germany’s top division.

He has made 17 appearances this season and has contributed four assists and 13 goals in all competitions. He traveled with France’s team to the 2022 World Cup starting at the weekend.

Thuram is a highly versatile player who can play on either wing and obviously down the center as well. The right-footer also has the most shots on goal in the Bundesliga this season by a sizable margin, which speaks of his ability to get in the right position at the right times.

Thuram might serve as Roberto Firmino’s long-term successor since his contract is set to expire next summer (Transfermarkt). Of all the departments at Liverpool, the strike appears to be the best organised at the moment.

Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez provide the Reds adequate offensive potency in addition to Mohamed Salah and Bobby. Even while another attacker may not be the most crucial addition, any team can benefit from having depth, and Liverpool most definitely cannot.

However, the funds available for a transfer, in the most ideal of situations, should be channeled toward signing a midfielder. Almost in a make-or-break situation, the midfielders at Liverpool are either not up to standard or are aging.

Therefore, the club’s first goal should be to sign a central midfielder to ensure the long-term viability of the organization. The Reds would not want to lose out on that element, either, as a player of Thuram’s caliber is not an easy player to come by.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will make a move for Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram in January.
