Liverpool target “World class” striker available on a free transfer next summer
Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram has been linked to Liverpool, and the Frenchman may depart on a free transfer this summer.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, who observed that the player is a “possible” free agent this summer, that is what has happened.
The 25-year-old, who is the son of French football star Lillian Thuram, has scored 10 goals in 15 Bundesliga games this season, which is already a campaign high.
Thuram, who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, possesses amazing speed and strength and excels in both physical and aerial situations.
He frequently moves infield to become a more impactful player in games, but his movement also presents difficulties for defenders.
Thuram is reportedly on Liverpool’s wishlist for the summer transfer window as Jurgen Klopp tries to upgrade his team, according to the German outlet Fussball Transfers.
However, they will face strong competition from Bayern Munich, who are also strongly linked with the forward.
Thuram has scored more goals than any Bayern player in the league this term, with ex-Chelsea starlet Jamal Musiala his closest rival on nine strikes.
But Liverpool are on the search for a replacement for current Bavarians star Sadio Mane, and Thuram could fit the bill.
Romano, Fabrizio, on Marcus Thuram
The Frenchman’s contract with Monchengladbach expires next summer, and if he does not reach an agreement to extend it, clubs will be free to sign him.
Liverpool might even begin pre-contract negotiations as early as January, getting the jump on Gladbach’s local rivals.
Fabrizio Romano said: “I think there will be many rumours around Thuram, as he’s a good player available as a potential free agent in the summer.
“I’m told he could really leave on a free transfer, so he’ll consider all options in the next months.”
That news might be a huge boost for Klopp and the Reds, who could bolster their team with a star player without having to pay a high price to sign him.
However, they will undoubtedly have to battle to acquire a player who Wolfsburg sporting director and former Germany international Marcel Schafer rated as a “world-class striker” with “world-class stature” in October.
