Liverpool new signing Fabio Carvalho reflects on “bittersweet moment” after Liverpool pre season defeat

A fresh summer transfer signing for Liverpool Tuesday’s 4-0 friendly loss to Manchester United marked Fabio Carvalho’s first unofficial debut for Liverpool. He called it a “bittersweet moment.”

As the Reds faced United in Bangkok, Carvalho was among the first lineup of the summer.

Before the game, there was much discussion about the £7.7 million signing’s position, and he began playing with Tyler Morton and Jordan Henderson on the left side of a three-man midfield.

Before being substituted by Leighton Clarkson in the 30th minute, he was active and very creative for the entirety of his half-hour performance, forming strong connections with Luis Diaz.

It was a significant accomplishment for the 19-year-old following a protracted search to seal his move to Anfield, but after the loss, Carvalho spoke to LFCTV and reflected on a “bittersweet experience.”

“It was a bittersweet moment for me, one of my first games for Liverpool. Hopefully, the first of many,” he said.

“I’m sure we will be working on the pitch to rectify that next time we play against them.”

“I thought I had [scored]!” Carvalho continued.

“I had the chance obviously, hit the post. Next game I’m sure I’ll get the goal.”

On Friday afternoon in Kallang, Singapore, Liverpool will play Crystal Palace, and Carvalho is confident they will avoid repeating their mistakes.

“That’s the point we’re at, to be fair,” he assessed, with Liverpool a week behind United in their preparations and in no way seeing the result as a failure.

“When you play against one of the best teams in the country, you get punished if you make mistakes.

“Hopefully, next game, we can put everything to bed.”
