Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson reacts on final-day decider – “Hopefully Stevie and Villa do us a favour”

The Premier League title is still on the line, Jordan Henderson is hopeful Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa “give us a favor” on the last day.

Liverpool came from behind to beat Southampton 2-1 on Tuesday night, extending the title race to the final day.

Man City is in first place, a point ahead of Liverpool, with both teams playing at home in Sunday’s 4pm kickoffs.

Liverpool meet Wolves at Anfield, while City host Villa at the Etihad, with the story already written as Gerrard, Philippe Coutinho, Danny Ings, and the rest of the Liverpool team have the chance to hand their former club the title.

After the victory at St Mary’s, Henderson spoke to Sky Sports about the situation at the top.

“That was the aim, to take it right to the end,” he explained.

“[There were] a lot of changes in the team but the lads were brilliant, kept it going right to the end and we got our reward.”

“We’ll concentrate on what we’ve got to do and hopefully Stevie and Villa will do us a favour at City.”

“We’re constantly in cup finals, we’re used to it,” he continued.

“We’re celebrating in the changing rooms, then next we’re on the plane [to Southampton].

“The cup final at the weekend gave us a bit of a boost. To get over the line and win that.

“We’ve had one or two lads with knocks or bruises, we’ve used the whole squad, the energy levels were good tonight.”

The Reds are ready to return to full strength against Wolves after making nine changes for the trip to St Mary’s, which paid dividends when Takumi Minamino struck the equaliser at 1-1.
