Enzo Fernandez finally decides on his next club ahead of the January transfer window as Liverpool set to seal deal

Following his fantastic World Cup performances with Argentina, Enzo Fernandez has identified Liverpool as one of his preferred transfers should he decide to leave Benfica.

As teams compete to capture the Benfica star, Enzo Fernandez is said to prefer a move to Liverpool.

The Argentine was instrumental in helping his nation win the World Cup at the weekend. As a regular in the middle of the field, Fernandez earned the title of Young Player of the Tournament, an honour that has previously gone to players like Kylian Mbappe.

As a result, Fernandez’s stock has steadily increased, and Benfica is expected to receive a flood of offers, but they are reportedly not under any pressure to sell. The 21-year-old, who recently relocated from River Plate to Lisbon, would want to go to Liverpool if he were to leave the Estadio da Luz.

Argentine publication Diario La Capital claimed last week that an agreement already existed between Benfica and Liverpool regarding Fernandez. It stated: “The English club already has an agreement in principle with the Portuguese club to incorporate the young Argentina midfielder from June 2023.”

According to reports, the Reds could offer £80 million to Benfica to allow him to stay with the Portuguese team through the end of the current campaign. According to their deal, Fernandez’s former team would earn just under £20 million. Benfica has a history of being prepared to sell their top players for significant sums of money.

Liverpool have tapped into the Portuguese of late, adding Nunez for a club-record fee back in the summer, just months after they’d signed Luis Diaz from Porto.

But right now, Jurgen Klopp’s primary objective is expanding his midfield alternatives. Given their chaotic start to the season, the Reds chose not to add reinforcements in the middle of the park back in the summer. This decision has since drawn criticism.

Many of the regulars are ageing or dealing with ongoing injury issues. Although Arthur was brought in on loan in the summer, he has hardly played because of ongoing fitness issues.

The Reds sees Jude Bellingham as their main target because the Borussia Dortmund player’s status has grown following a successful World Cup outing with England.
