Liverpool transfer: Liverpool set to complete Jürgen Klopp midfield with ‘spectacular’ £30m transfer Lionel Messi loves
Liverpool is in need of a midfielder and is a fan of the “amazing” talent, according to Lionel Messi. The ‘£30m’ transfer for Jürgen Klopp must be completed by FSG.
However, despite his spectacular goal against Mexico, Liverpool would not be acting retaliatorily by making a January move for Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernández, as has been claimed by Portuguese source Record.
Liverpool were reportedly interested in the 21-year-old during the summer, according to Sky Sports, but the Reds finally decided against making a move.
Instead, Fernández was given permission to go from River Plate to Benfica for just €10 million plus €8 million in add-ons (a total sum of just £15.5 million) via Fabrizio Romano.
The Argentine may now cost three times as much, according to Transfermarkt, at £30 million.
The price might even grow further after an impressive showing for his country at the World Cup and amid interest from Barcelona and Manchester City, among others, too (via the Daily Mail) — but that is the model that Liverpool have worked to.
Although Fernández’s first international goal, which he scored on Saturday against Mexico, was stunning, he offers much more than just a flair for the cameras.
“I’m not surprised by Enzo. I know him and I see him train every day,” Lionel Messi said (via All Football) after the win that he and Fernández netted in. “He deserves it because he’s a spectacular player.”
