Senegal successfully ended Qatar’s Group A campaign, defeating the hosts despite Mohammed Muntari scored his nation’s first World Cup goal.

The hosts are currently on the verge of leaving their own World Cup after Senegal secured Africa’s first victory in this 2022 competition.

The African champions took the lead after the first half with two goals on either side. The first came as a result of a defensive blunder when Boualem Khoukhi took a massive swing at a cross from Krepin Diatta, lost his balance, and handed the ball to Boulaye Dia, who sent it past Barsham.

Just as the hosts looked to have run out of steam, substitute Muntari provided a moment of history, meeting Mohammad’s pinpoint cross from the right with a powerful downward header to revive home hopes.

Four minutes later, one of Senegal’s substitutes, Iliman Ndiaye, surged down the right and pulled the ball back for Bamba Dieng to sweep in and finally secure the victory, quickly putting out the flames.
