Liverpool transfer target Romeo Lavia ‘makes feelings clear’ with ultimate offer tabled to seal deal
Liverpool could be edging closer to a deal to sign Southampton and Belgium star Romeo Lavia.
Liverpool target Romeo Lavia has made it clear he wants to join the club, according to reports. It is claimed the Southampton star is waiting for the Reds, who are preparing their ‘ultimate’ offer to sign him.
Lavia has had just one season in the Premier League. However, his performances in a Saints shirt have seen him linked with a host of top clubs in England.
He only joined Southampton from Manchester City last summer for a fee that could rise to £14million. But despite their relegation from the top flight, the south coast club are set to make a large profit.
Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal have all been linked with a move for Lavia. But it appears Liverpool are in the best position to get a deal done in the coming days.
The Reds have already seen a couple of offers turned down for the 19-year-old. Southampton are holding out for a total package nearer to £50m.
Lavia is a full Belgium international and Belgian football journalist Sacha Tavolieri has provided an update on his future. He claims Liverpool are now preparing their third and ‘ultimate’ offer for Lavia.
The initial bid will be £40m but will include add-ons that Liverpool feel will meet Southampton’s demands. Lavia’s camp are now waiting for the Merseyside club to make that offer after he confirmed his desire to join them.
The report says that Liverpool are currently the only club in a position to make an offer Southampton would accept for the young star. Lavia would become the third midfield signing for Jurgen Klopp this summer.
It was a position Klopp prioritised heading into this window. The departures of James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita on free transfers saw the German short of options in the middle of the park.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai arrived for an initial combined fee of £95m to bolster the resources. But Klopp has since lost two more high-profile members of his midfield.
Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have both made money-spinning moves to the Saudi Pro League. That has again left Liverpool short of options in the middle of the park.
Lavia would not be able to replace the experience of the likes of Henderson or Fabinho. However, he would add more youthful legs to a Liverpool side that perhaps looked its age at times last season.
