Jurgen Klopp ‘holds a meeting with the representatives of Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat’ as Liverpool table bid for midfielder
Jurgen Klopp has reportedly met with the representatives of Morocco star Sofyan Amrabat with Liverpool keen to sign the midfielder.
Amrabat is currently representing the Atlas Lions at the 2022 World Cup and he has been a major part of their historic run to the quarter-finals – the first time the African side have ever reached that stage.
He has featured in every minute in Qatar, including all 120 of their penalty victory over Spain on Tuesday, and the defensive midfielder has been one of the breakout stars of the tournament
According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp met with Amrabat’s representatives as the Reds look to step up their attempts to sign the 26-year-old.
After pursuing Aurelien Tchouameni in the summer before he joined Real Madrid, the Merseyside team is now looking for a central midfielder.
Although they are widely believed to be the favourites to sign Jude Bellingham, the Reds may need to bring in more than one midfielder because Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, and Naby Keita all have contracts that expire in the summer of 2019, Curtis Jones has struggled with his fitness, and Fabinho has struggled with his form.
Amrabat presently plays for Fiorentina, but according to the source, he would be willing to leave the Serie A team if it meant he could play in the Champions League.
According to reports, Klopp and his representatives have already met and will continue their discussion after the World Cup.
Following a stellar two-and-a-half season with La Viola after joining from Club Brugge in 2020, Amrabat excelled as Morocco won Group F, which also featured Croatia and Belgium.
Fiorentina might be willing to sell the defensive midfielder because he still has one and a half years left on his Italian contract and they want to capitalise on his value right away.
Amrabat is attracting a lot of attention, according to his agent Mohammed Sinouh, after his stunning performances in Qatar.
Sinouh said: ‘Of course, I get a lot of phone calls for Sofyan. The whole world has seen he’s the best holding midfielder in the World Cup.
‘Sofyan is a top professional, he’s focused on World Cup with Morocco.’
