Four things we Observed in Liverpool 3-2 defeat to West Ham United.

Liverpool suffered a surprising shocking 3-2 loss to West Ham United in the Premier League at the London Stadium on Sunday evening.

An Early first-half own goal by Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson Becker, following a corner kick, gave the home team the lead.

The Reds struggled to break down a resilient West Ham side, not until Mo Salah’s skill won a free-kick on the edge of the area and Trent Alexander Arnold stepped up and fired the ball past Lukasz Fabianski into the top corner.

David Moye’s men made it 2-1 through Pablo Fornals, who broke clear to beat Alisson before Kurt Zouma nodded in another dangerous corner delivery.

Divock Origi pulled one back for the visitors, but it wasn’t enough as West Ham secured all three points.

The defeat brings the Red’s unbeaten 25 game record to an end and also see the hammers overtake Jurgen Klopp’s side on the Premier League table.

1. Alisson at Fault?

West Ham United are known to score plenty of goals from set-pieces, and they did prove it once again as Parblo Fornals Corner Kick forced Alisson to put the ball in his net.

However, a VAR check, as the traffic around Alisson meant that there was always the possibility of a goalkeeper foul.

The referees appeared to focus on the presence of Angelo Ogbonna, as he was the nearest to Alisson when the goalkeeper was challenged for the ball.

The real problem for the Brazilian was Michail Antonio, who was on top of him, perhaps even holding him, until the last second the ball entered. This prevented Alisson from running to the ball and jumping higher.

The entire Liverpool defence were not at their best on the night except for some Virgil Van Dijk brilliance. Alisson should have done better in stopping Fornals from scoring the second goal as he got a weak hand to the ball.

It is not often that a goalkeeper goes the entire season without errors, it just happened yesterday was one of Alisson’s worst nights on duty.

2. Has Liverpool missed out on the title race?
This defeat is coming on the back of a 2-2 draw against Brighton at Anfield. The reds have missed out on an opportunity to make a statement at the top of the table.

Liverpool have failed to capitalise on dropped points from rivals Chelsea, on two occasions and are now behind West Ham in the table.

The Reds will head into the International break four points behind league toppers Chelsea and a point behind Man City and West Ham United.

3. Definitely West Ham looked good

West Ham have already defeated Man City and Manchester United in the League Cup this season. It says a lot about their form.

Statistics don’t lie, as they proved to have one of the tightest defence in the league, not allowing opponents to create quality chances.

The Hammers are very good at turning their defensive shape into an attack, breaking without leaving gaps, and this was exactly what they did in this win.
They have rightly earned their position at the top of the table.

If Liverpool are to be considered as title challengers these are the type of games they should win.

4. All Eyes on the Premier League for the next three months
An international break will allow Liverpool to regroup and map out plans for the next three months after the long two weeks break.
The Likes of Curtis Jone and Firmino who were greatly missed against West Ham United would have returned to the team.

The Reds return to action with three straight home games in late November, with the first one getting a chance to show they are ready to fight for the title against an improved Arsenal side.
A chance to get back to winning ways and proving to fans they mean business.

Having secured a spot in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, the Reds should immediately shift their attention to the premier league as it is the most important for now.
