Liverpool ‘reach agreement’ over game-changing capture of World Cup star player
Liverpool have reportedly reached a pre-contract agreement with one of the World Cup’s top performers as they look to improve key position.
After over a month of upsets, surprises, and controversy, the World Cup is now in its final stages. Only Argentina, Croatia, France, and Morocco remain in the competition.
In the quarterfinals, Argentina defeated the Netherlands on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 stalemate in extra time.
At this World Cup, there have been a few breakout stars. Before the Netherlands fell to Argentina, Cody Gakpo scored three goals. Even though Goncalo Ramos scored a hat-trick for Portugal against Switzerland, they were unable to defeat Morocco. While Argentina’s Enzo Fernandez has been a rock in the middle and is expected to start against Croatia.
It’s possible that all three of those players will eventually join the Premier League. Man Utd is interested in both Gakpo and Ramos, though they will only acquire one of them, while Fernandez is expected to sign with Liverpool.
Fernandez may move to England first, it appears. On Saturday, Liverpool opened formal negotiations with Benfica for the midfield workhorse. And now there are reports that Fernandez and Jurgen Klopp’s team “reached a pre-contract agreement.”

According to The Daily Mirror, Fernandez has agreed to join Liverpool next summer, as long as the Merseyside giants can sort out a transfer fee with Benfica.
It won’t be simple, though. Benfica has a history of being a difficult negotiator. They reneged on their agreement with Darwin Nunez and compelled Liverpool to pay up to £85 million.
In his Benfica deal, Fernandez has a release clause worth £103 million. Although he shouldn’t cost Liverpool this much next summer, he won’t be cheap either.
Even though Klopp is certainly interested in the 21-year-old, the deal is still far from being finalised. The outcome of the negotiations between representatives of Liverpool and Benfica will be crucial.
There is also the uncertainty surrounding Borrusia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham as Liverpool won’t have enough money left over to sign Bellingham if they spend a significant portion of their cash on Fernandez.
