Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema late double was enough to give Real Madrid a 3-1 win over Espanyol and maintain the winning start to the La Liga season.
After just 12 minutes, Aurelien Tchouameni’s through ball set up Vinicius Junior’s calm finish to give Real Madrid the lead. The away team appeared to be in charge of the match at that point.
However, Espanyol gained momentum throughout the first half and equalized one minute before the break when Joselu scored at the second attempt after a Thibaut Courtois stop had rebounded into his path.
The home squad put up a valiant effort and had chances to add a second goal, but in the end, Real Madrid won all three points because of their superior talent.
Rodrygo’s excellent cross to the back post was met by Benzema’s diving goal with just two minutes remaining.
The French forward then added a third goal for Real Madrid against a Espanyol team that was down to 10 men in stoppage time after Benjamin Lecomte’s red card.
