Liverpool star Mohamed Salah hints at possible retirement following Egypt defeat Senegal
Egypt won’t go to the World Cup following the loss to Senegal in the penalty shootout. Salah missed a penalty.
The Pharaohs lost a second consecutive penalty shootout to Senegal and therefore suffered defeat in their all-important World Cup play-off qualifier.
The defeat could be the last international game for Mo Salah, who has apparently hinted at international retirement in a post-game speech to his teammates.
In a statement, posted on FIGol Website “‘I told you before the second leg that I’m proud to play with you and you’re some of the most dedicated players I played with,’ Salah said.
“I played with the previous generation with Wael Gomaa and Mohamed Aboutrika, then with Abdallah El-Said and the following generation. And I can say that I’m happy with the current generation.
“I’m proud to have played with you and what happened was out of our control because they were penalty shootouts, and for the second time.
There’s not much I can say, but it was a privilege to play alongside you, whether I’ll be here or not afterwards,” he concluded.
Salah has represented Egypt since 2011. The Liverpool forward has earned 84 caps, scoring 47 goals.
