Sadio Mané sends heartfelt message to fans after missing out on World Cup
Following this week’s World Cup setback, former Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane sent a message to his supporters. The Senegal star player will miss the competition.
Sadio Mané came in second place in this year’s Ballon d’Or, but he won’t be able to end 2022 with the World Cup.
He misses out on the opportunity to play as the top player for Senegal because of an injury sustained in his final match with Bayern Munich.
It’s a huge setback for Mané, who had a stellar start to the year. Before starting a remarkable run of form with Liverpool, he won the Africa Cup of Nations with his nation. The forward came close to winning everything over a five-month period.
Naturally, Mané has received wonderful support. After all, he is a loved player, and nobody wants to see a famous athlete miss the World Cup.
Mané has now responded to those messages, too, in an Instagram post.
“Good evening to all,” he wrote. “Many of you have sent me messages of support following my injury. Thank God, the operation I underwent in the middle of the week went well, and I want to take this opportunity to thank you all and show my appreciation.
“This Monday, our dear country will enter the World Cup, Qatar 2022. I am sure that the Lions will transcend themselves and will approach every match as a real final.
“I am also convinced that all Senegalese will be in front of the television to support and encourage our valiant national team. Like all the fans of the Tanière, I am convinced that my teammates will fight as one man and as they are used to do in order to honour our dear Sénégal.
“Vive le Sénégal, Allez the Lions.”
It’s devastating for Mané, who joins Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema on the sidelines. It’s now a tournament arguably missing 2022’s two best players.
Mané also guided Senegal in advancing past Egypt in a play-off for a spot. Mohamed Salah was unable to go due to his qualification, hence neither player will now compete in Qatar.
That is a terrible loss for Mané, who will hopefully make a comeback in 2023.
