Reports: Liverpool now looking at signing long term 24-year-old midfield target who impressed Lionel Messi
Liverpool are scouting Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners with a view to signing the midfielder.
The Reds have reportedly been keeping an eye on the 24-year-old during “recent months.”
According to reports, signing Koopmeiners would show Pep Lijnders, the assistant manager, has “growing power.” Liverpool are going Dutch after signing Cody Gakpo, a fellow Dutchman, earlier this month.
Koopmeiners, who graduated from the AZ Alkmaar academy, is currently playing in his second season in Italy. The midfielder has accrued 15 caps since his international debut in 2020.
Liverpool back in for long-term target?
Liverpool’s interest in Koopmeiners wouldn’t exactly be a bolt from the blue.
After Gini Wijnaldum left the Reds in 2021, the Dutch star was mentioned in connection with the team.
The link might not, however, be one that gets fans excited. This is undoubtedly additional proof that Lijnders is becoming more powerful at Anfield, which has caused some people to voice alarm.
But that shouldn’t diminish how good Koopmeiners is. He’s a great athlete who can also play center back when necessary.
He was the one who set up Wout Weghorst’s exquisitely produced equalizer against Argentina at the World Cup in December and is best recognized for his ability to strike the ball so brilliantly.
