Man United vs Man City: Bruno Fernandes reveals why he hasn’t been scoring goals.
Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has spoken out on why he has found it difficult to score goals ahead of the Manchester derby at Old Trafford on Saturday.
This will be united first home game since the 5-0 humiliating loss to Liverpool two weeks ago.
The 27-year-old stated that he knows people are upset that he is not scoring goals or providing many assists like in previous seasons.
The Portugal International netted 18 goals in the Premier League last season helping Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to finish second in the English top-flight.
However, he has only managed to score once this season, since September, and has gone 11 matches without a goal.
Fernandez says he is convinced that the opposition teams are more prepared for him than before, while also pointing out his six assists in the last seven games across all competitions to show he is performing well and creating more opportunities for his teammates.
“I’m not scoring goals because I’m missing the goal! It’s easy like that,” Fernandes told Sky Sports.
“The way we played in the last two games, I’ve played a little deeper, yeah, but it’s because we changed the system and you have to adapt.
“I know people are upset because the numbers are going a little bit low. I’m never happy with myself. I want to always improve and do better.
“The teams know me better and I don’t get the space I got in the beginning because I was someone coming from Portugal and most players didn’t know who Bruno is.
“Now the space is a little bit short for me, the time is a little bit short and I have to improve on that to be quick on shooting and passing and everything to make my game work.”
“The importance for people of scoring goals is always better than doing assists or a great game. Last season everyone was like, ‘he’s scored a lot of goals but he also scores a lot of penalties and he doesn’t perform.
“Now I perform and give a lot of assists and people say ‘he’s not scoring goals. There will always be a problem.”
Manchester United have a big task ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game against rivals, Manchester City, and Fernandes hope to help Solskjaer’s team defeat Pep Guardiola.
