Liverpool set for ‘star exodus’ as star tipped to leave Anfield after Cody Gakpo transfer

Liverpool may have to sell one of their stars after signing of Netherlands International Cody Gakpo.

Liverpool have been warned they are facing a “sad exodus” as one of their stars Roberto Firmino has been tipped to leave the club following Cody Gakpo’s signing.

The Reds beat Manchester United to what could become a £50million deal for the Netherlands forward, as Jurgen Klopp’s side are set to bolster their forward options following injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

The dual are not expected to return before February, as Liverpool fielded Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the left in their 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day. The former Arsenal man’s contract is up at the end of the season alongside team-mates Firmino and Naby Keita, and all three could be set to leave the club in the summer.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has tipped the Brazilian forward to leave on a free transfer at the end of the season following the capture of Gakpo by the Merseyside club.

“Wow, more goals,” Cascarino told talkSPORT. “Just think, they’ve got Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez who you’d like to think will chip in with more goals, and now Gakpo, who is only 23 years old.

“The most surprising thing about Gakpo is that he’s 6ft 4in but he’s not your traditional center-forward. He’s very athletic, he’s very quick.

“He’s so versatile that you can play him in any position in the forward line – and that’s typical of a Klopp signing, that he likes to use certain layers in different positions. He added.

“But, I think there will be a sad exodus for some players who have been terrific for Liverpool but have their contracts running down. And I think that will be Firmino in the summer.”

Both Firmino and Salah have scored seven goals so far this season, they are Liverpool’s top two scorers in the Premier League. The 31-year-old has continued to play a key role for the squad despite being more on the fringe after Jota, Diaz, and Nunez were signed in recent years.

There have been questions regarding his future, however, as his deal is up at the end of the season and he has been linked several times with a move to Juventus.

Brazilian outlet UOL reported that the Reds have held talks with Firmino over a new contract for a further one or two years, but they are not keen on a longer-term deal.

Firmino is open to speaking to foreign clubs from January 1 regarding a pre-contractual agreement and would be free to negotiate a potential deal with Juventus, but his priority reportedly is to remain at Anfield.

Liverpool will publicly declare that it is none of their concern, but it would have been only natural for them to have taken an interest in Manchester City’s situation this week.

After being charged on Monday with more than 100 alleged financial regulation violations, City, who have won three of the last five Premier League championships by a single point over Liverpool, are currently in the midst of an unusual moment in the history of English football.

The inquiry, which was launched in December 2018 following the publication of documents by the German website Der Spiegel that were first made public by Portuguese hacker Rui Pinto, will now be forwarded to a commission.

Allegations that City have inflated sponsorship, secretly increased important figures’ salary, and disregarded rules regarding how approaches to young players are allowed might result in serious fines, point deductions, or possibly expulsion from the league, according to reports.

Liverpool, who may profit from such a horrific event, is likewise interested in talk of retroactively depriving them of their titles.

But there is at least the air of ambiguity around the Etihad that those at Anfield could benefit from while the matter awaits a resolution—one that must be emphasised that is not expected imminently.

Arsenal and Liverpool set to battle for England international in the summer

West Ham are close to conceding defeat in their hopes of keeping star midfielder Declan Rice.

The exceptionally talented defensive midfielder has been loyal to the Hammers thus far, but after choosing not to extend his contract, the England international is expected to finally leave in the summer transfer window.

Although almost every top-six club has been linked with the player, journalist Rudy Galetti says that Arsenal and Liverpool are the two teams to keep an eye on.

The 24-year-old currently has a little over 12 months left on his deal, and although the Hammers retain the option to add another year, should the club trigger it, it would only be to protect the midfielder’s value, rather than to keep him in their squad for an additional year.

With some of the top elite clubs monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation, West Ham will be bracing themselves for offers, and speaking about their desire to open discussions at the end of the season, Galetti, who spoke to GiveMeSport, said: “It’s too early to talk about negotiation between clubs because West Ham don’t want to discuss about Rice with any clubs until June.

“But for sure, Arsenal will be one that will follow the player with great attention during the next transfer window, and in that sense, we also need to pay attention to Liverpool, who are really interested in him.”

Rice, who has 39 international appearances to his name, was promoted to the Hammers senior first squad in 2017. Since then, he has played in 222 games across all competitions and has directly assisted 23 goals.

Top journalist confirms Liverpool are ‘really interested’ in Arsenal’s top summer target

According to journalist Rudy Galetti, Liverpool are now “extremely interested” in luring Declan Rice away from Arsenal during the summer transfer season.

The Reds have had a terrible season thus far, and following last weekend’s humiliating 3-0 loss to relegation-threatened Wolves, things only got worse.

They still have a midfield problem, which might now derail Arsenal’s summer ambitions.

The Daily Mail revealed last month that Arsenal have made West Ham star Declan Rice their top target for the summer transfer window.

The Gunners are short of options in the middle of the park. Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey are their regular starters, while Jorginho, as good as he is, is only a short-term option.

A new midfielder will be a priority for Mikel Arteta in the summer window, and Rice would be absolutely incredible for them if they can get him.

However, Liverpool are desperate for a new midfielder too, and they could spoil the Gunners’ party.

Galetti told GiveMeSport: “It’s too early to talk about negotiation between clubs because West Ham don’t want to discuss about Rice with any clubs until June.

“But for sure, Arsenal will be one that will follow the player with great attention during the next transfer window, and in that sense, we also need to pay attention to Liverpool, who are really interested in him.”

The Englishman is one of the best players in his position in the Premier League, and he has performed brilliantly – not just for West Ham but for England as well.

What makes him an even more attractive option is the fact that he’s still only 24 years old, which means he’s nowhere near his prime yet and will only get better in the coming years.

Liverpool could do with Rice in the middle of their park, but whether they can compete with Arsenal in this race – especially if the Gunners win the Premier League – remains to be seen.

It is claimed that the Bundesliga outfit have made it clear to the midfielder and his family that staying a further 12 months would be of huge benefit to Bellingham, pointing to Jadon Sancho’s struggles since moving to Manchester United in 2021.

“Dortmund ideally want Bellingham to stay in Germany for another season, and to facilitate that they would make him the highest paid player in their history if he signed a new deal,” reads a report from 90min.

Liverpool transfer: Liverpool now facing serious competition to sign ‘Sensational’ world cup winner

As Atletico Madrid now joins the fray for the Real Betis midfielder, Guido Rodriguez, Liverpool is reportedly up against increasing opposition in the hunt to recruit him.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup champion is reportedly being pursued by both Diego Simeone’s team and Inter Milan, but according to the report, Rodriguez’s priority right now is to sign a new contract with Betis as his current one is slated to expire in 2024.

Rodriguez, described in the article as a “sensational” midfielder at the height of his abilities, has long been linked to Liverpool. La Razon recently reported that the Reds were interested in signing Rodriguez in January as a result of Arthur Melo’s injury setback.

However, as we know, Liverpool failed to sign any midfielder in January, a decision that has infuriated supporters following an awful run of form that has seen the Reds lose to the likes of Wolves, Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

With Liverpool failing to sign a midfielder and Atletico now interested in signing Rodriguez, there’s a good chance that the Anfield side will once again miss out on a long-term transfer target, with the Argentine the perfect player to help solve the Klopp’s ongoing midfield issues.

Indeed, Rodriguez could have been a perfect foil for the likes of Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara, yet with the January window long closed and the summer market months away, Liverpool will have to once again have to live with their mistakes after their misstep last month.

With 18 months remaining on his contract, Rodriguez could be primed for a big move this summer if the midfielder fails to agree new terms with Betis.

And for the likes of Atletico, the La Liga giants could land a coup if Liverpool fail to make a move for the Argentina international.

As with Liverpool, Atletico are in a mini-crisis of their own that could be solved with smart moves in the summer, and with Rodriguez one of the most underrated midfielders in Spain, the South American talisman could be ideal for Simeone, who could get one over on Liverpool in the process.
