The Egyptian, who was set to become a free agent in the summer of 2019, has now locked down his future with a contract at Anfield that will last until 2025.
Salah recently completed a strong year for the Reds in which he scored 31 goals across all competitions and won the PFA Player of the Season award.
Salah, who joined Liverpool in 2017 from Roma, has established himself as one of the club’s all-time greatest players, scoring 156 goals in 254 games. However, rumors about his future have persisted despite months of contract negotiations.
Sadio Mane, Salah’s striking partner, faced a comparable situation but decided to move to Bayern Munich when his application to become the team’s highest paid player was denied.
The outcome was different for his former teammate, though; at more than £350,000 per week, the 29-year-old is on track to become Liverpool’s most paid player ever.
Salah has practically won every major award available during his time at Anfield and was a member of a team that narrowly missed an unprecedented quadruple in the 2021–2022 season.
However, they were left with the FA Cup and League Cup after falling short in the Champions League final and failing to overtake Manchester City in the race for the championship.
Despite Mane’s departure, Liverpool have strengthened with the addition of Darwin Nunez, and Salah is optimistic about the future of the team, with an eye toward winning more prestigious awards.
Throughout his discussions with Liverpool, Mohamed Salah stated that money was never a concern.
He told the club’s official site: “I feel great and [I am] excited to win trophies with the club. It’s a happy day for everyone.
“It takes a little bit of time, I think, to renew, but now everything is done so we just need to focus on what’s next.
“I think you can see in the last five or six years the team was always going [upwards].
“Last season we were close to winning four, but unfortunately in the last week of the season we lost two trophies.
“I think we are in a good position to fight for everything. We have new signings as well. We just need to keep working hard, have a good vision, be positive and go for everything again.”
Salah has consistently insisted that the standoff over the new agreement has never been motivated by money, and he has now assured supporters that his only objective is to keep winning championships under Jurgen Klopp.
“My message [to the fans] is the players in the team want to give our best next season to try to win all the trophies,”
Salah added. “As usual, you stay behind us and give us a big push and I am sure we are going to win trophies again [together].”
