Liverpool ‘confident’ of sealing deal for £68m Chelsea star as Reds ‘ready to make an offer’
Liverpool are reportedly ‘confident’ of signing Levi Colwill from Chelsea this summer as the Reds prepare their opening offer for the England Under-21 international.
Colwill enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Premier League last term, starring for Brighton, who want to keep the 20-year-old but have seen a £30m bid rejected.
New Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino is adamant Colwill is part of his plans, with the Blues ready to offer a new long-term contract, but Colwill wants assurances over game time before he commits to staying at Stamford Bridge.
“I’ll speak to my family, speak to everyone I need to and make a decision. I’ve got to play at the end of the day to hopefully get there [England senior team] and go to the next camp,” Colwill said having played a starring role for the England Under 21s as they won the European Championships.
90min report that Colwill – whose current Blues deal expires in the summer of 2025 – is ‘far from convinced that his long-term future’ is at Chelsea.
And Liverpool hope Colwill’s indecisiveness could open the door for them to make a move, with previous reports claiming the Reds were interested ‘even at a record price’.
football.london claim Chelsea see William Saliba as Colwill’s equal, meaning they see their academy graduate as a £68m asset.
And 90min now claim ‘Liverpool are confident they can lure Colwill away from Stamford Bridge’ despite Chelsea’s insistence he’s not for sale and are ‘ready to make an offer’ for the centre-back.
Mauricio Pochettino confirmed last week that he is set to talk to Colwill about his plans.
Pochettino said: “I need to get a feel for him. I need to hear what he has in his mind. What he expects. And then, of course, for him to listen to what I expect from him.”
Liverpool have other centre-back irons in the fire should they fail to land Colwill, with Perr Schuurs said to be among ther other top targets.
The Reds are preparing a ‘new move’ for the Torino centre-back to beat Crystal Palace to his signature, while they’ve decided to walk away from a possible deal for Wolfsburg’s Micky van der Ven.
