“I have a lot of respect”- Liverpool midfield target Sofyan Amrabat finally breaks silence on his next destination

Sofyan Amrabat has spoken about his future at club level amid links with the likes of Liverpool while preparing for the World Cup semi-final with Morocco.

Amrabat has helped Morocco in becoming the first country from Africa or the Arab world to get to the World Cup semifinals. To advance to the championship match against Argentina, they must defeat defending champions France on Wednesday.

For the Moroccans, simply making it this far has been a remarkable accomplishment. Major clubs have therefore shown interest in several of their players. Amrabat has aided Morocco in becoming the first country from Africa or the Arab world to get to the World Cup semi-final.

For the Moroccans, simply making it this far has been a remarkable accomplishment. Major clubs have therefore shown interest in several of their players.

One of their team’s most sought-after players is Amrabat. In recent weeks, the central midfielder has been linked to both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

Given how much attention has been focused on Liverpool’s midfield this year, their need may be the biggest. The likes of James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Arthur Melo, among others, might possibly leave at the end of the season.

Amrabat has been chosen as a potential candidate to fill the gap. Indeed, recent sources claim that after the 26-year-old returns from the World Cup, Jurgen Klopp will take part in further discussions on the potential deal.

But Anfield is not Amrabat’s only potential destination. In an interview with Marca, the prospect of a transfer to La Liga has been raised

The Spanish outlet has pointed out to Amrabat that he could be a target for Barcelona or, more likely, Atletico Madrid.

Asked about those two possible exit routes, Sofyan Amrabat said: “It is a great honour to be associated with these types of clubs. Right now I’m playing for Fiorentina.

“I have a lot of respect for my club; it’s a great team. I have a great coach and a great relationship with the owner Rocco Commisso, who brought me to Fiorentina, and also with Joe Barone (General Manager) and Daniele Prade (Sporting Director). I have a lot of respect for them and for the club.”

when asked further about Atletico’s style, he hinted he could be happy playing for Diego Simeone.

Amrabat added: “I have a great coach at Fiorentina. I don’t like to talk about others. But yes, what Simeone does, what he has achieved… he has coached Atletico de Madrid for many years.

“I like his style of play. He has won a lot and I have a lot of respect for him.

“The players on his team are physically strong and aggressive. I like to play that way.”

Simeone’s approach now differs from Klopp’s at Liverpool. He has not yet revealed his thoughts on the type of system he would face in Merseyside.

But for the athlete to be attracting clubs of this calibre must be great honour. After all, he hasn’t featured in the Champions League since his time with Club Brugge during the 2018–19 season.

In 2023, Amrabat should have a range of alternatives. Only time will be able to reveal his final destination. His current focus should be on his duties in Qatar.
