‘An extra weapon’ – Ajax manager admits Liverpool’s £20m man made all the difference for Reds last night in the champions league
Ajax manager Alfred Schreuder has showered praises on Thiago Alcantara’s display for Liverpool last night.
The Reds defeated the Dutch Champions 2-1 at Anfield thanks in large part to Thiago. Additionally, Schreuder claimed that the Spaniard was a “additional weapon” for Liverpool while speaking to the Liverpool Echo.

“We will have a look further at the intensity and we can always learn about that, we don’t have that in the Dutch league, it’s quicker at this level. It’s a learning moment for us,” he said.
“I had hoped we would have done better at the beginning. There was definitely space but we were put under pressure. We got out of it a few times pretty well. Liverpool took a few more risks.
“Thiago was an extra weapon in the midfield and he could switch the play. It’s a top team. It’s not for nothing they are the favourites in this group.”
How would you characterize Thiago’s performance from last night? It wasn’t just the outstanding ball quality; by this point, we expect nothing less from the 31-year-old.
He also shown exceptional pressing, tackling, and positional awareness. Even if they are quite amazing, those are traits we expect from Thiago.
Instead, the leadership he demonstrated last night was possibly Liverpool’s no. 6 best quality.
When he returned to the starting lineup after a five-week absence, he made a huge difference.
Some of the players may have retreated or collapsed under the strain he was under to turn things around for Liverpool. No, Thiago.
He assumed charge and put the midfield on his back right away.
Every time Thiago is on the team, Fabinho in particular seems to gain. The two are perhaps Liverpool’s sole choices for a top-tier midfield. On the field, the differences between them both are essentially night and day.
You could clearly tell how much the victory meant to Thiago after he had carried his squad through the contest.
We’ll never get tired of witnessing a legendary player become so touched by dong the Liverpool red. We’ll never get sick of seeing him in Liverpool red, period. What an actor. Now, keep moving!
