Wayne Rooney showers praises on England star that intrigues him most heading into World Cup
In a recent interview, Wayne Rooney discussed England’s upcoming World Cup match against Iran and named the player who most interests him.
The Manchester United legend said that, ahead of England’s opening match, Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool intrigues him the most because he is unsure of what manager Gareth Southgate will do with the right-back.

Liverpool were held 1-1 at home by Tottenham
Rooney said via the Liverpool Echo: “I’m really intrigued to see what Gareth Southgate does with Trent Alexander-Arnold. Personally, I would start him.”
There are many uncertainties around Alexander-Arnold when it comes to the England lineup, and with Kieran Trippier or the Liverpool star expected to play right back because Reece James will not be available for the World Cup and Kyle Walker is still recovering from an injury.
When it comes to how he loves to set up his England team, Gareth Southgate has proven to be a more pragmatic coach, and it could work against Alexander-Arnold as Trippier is a superior defender.
However, considering that Liverpool’s star has attacking capabilities, many would concur with Rooney and start the 24-year-old for England against Iran.
