Revealed: Why Jurgen Klopp will resign if Liverpool is bought by oil state
Reports of FSG’s interest in selling Liverpool have opened up the possibility of a Middle Eastern state buying the club, in a manner to Newcastle and Man City.
A number of Liverpool fans admit they would embrace oil money being pumped into the club, but there is a big question mark over whether Jurgen Klopp would accept it.
The German manager has in the past criticized Man City, PSG, and Newcastle for being able to spend as much money as they want.
Therefore, journalist Matt Slater believes the Germans would quit Liverpool in the event of an oil-state takeover.
“But even if they did [Gulf state bought Liverpool], is that what Liverpool fans want?” Matt Slater wrote for The Athletic.
“Those who come from this proud, independent, left-leaning city, where trade unions still matter, or who have been attracted to the football club by its reputation for honest graft and self-sufficient excellence?
“Put it this way — it would require a reverse ferret of Olympic proportions if Klopp has to answer journalists’ questions the day after a takeover by a Gulf state.
“It is hard to see him sticking around for that one, and you wonder how many lifelong fans Liverpool would lose, too.”
