“I want to play for Liverpool” – Watch £33M Brazilian star midfielder better than Thiago sends strong transfer message to Liverpool
Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores-winning midfielder Joao Gomes In an interview with AS revealed his respect for Thiago Alcantara and discussed a prospective transfer to Liverpool, a Premier League powerhouse.
Gomes was not included in the Flamengo lineup when the Scarlet-and-Black fell to Flamengo in the Champions League of South America final a year ago, losing 2-1.

When the academy alumnus made up for the heartbreak of 2021 by starting and leading Dorival Junior’s team to a victory in Ecuador this past weekend, the champagne would have tasted just a little bit sweeter.
Flamengo’s outstanding midfielder Gomes set the tone for their tense 1-0 triumph over Athletico Paranaense of Brazil. The 21-year-old has made sure that, whenever or if he leaves, he will do so in grand style.
According to Sport, Liverpool is competing with teams like Real Madrid for the services of Gomes. According to Brazilian reporter Jorge Nicola, Flamengo is already looking for alternatives for a player whose combination of technical and muscular skills has drawn similarities to Manchester United’s Casemiro.
Gomes, though, favors a different international midfielder located in the north-west of England.
“I look at Thiago Alcantara,” he says, after opening the door to a potential £32 million move to Anfield.
“Liverpool is a team I would play for,” Gomes admitted recently, via ESPN. “Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream. My biggest dream in football.”
Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham is, The Athletic say, Liverpool’s number one midfield target heading into 2023. But he’s far from the only one.
“I think people have high expectations of those they know they can deliver. It doesn’t wear me out at all. On the contrary, it motivates me to show that I deserve all this expectation,”
“I feel very confident and ready for the new opportunities that are yet to come. I know that if I keep working hard and doing my best, this opportunity will come.
“Without a doubt, being called up and being able to play for Brazil is one of my biggest dreams. I hope this opportunity comes as soon as possible, because I’m going to grab it tooth and nail.”
Liverpool reportedly like Benfica duo Enzo Fernandez and Florentino Luis too. Napoli’s Stanislav Lobotka is another to keep an eye on.
