Liverpool receives triple injury boost as stars return to training ahead of Newcastle United clash
The latest report, coming out of the Reds camp is that three players have reportedly returned to training ahead of the Premier League midweek clash.
The return of three players to training has given Liverpool a significant boost ahead of their Premier League match against Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
Centre-back Joel Matip participated in exercises and sessions with the main group on Monday afternoon at the AXA training facility in Kirkby, where he was seen smiling for the camera.
The 31-year-old hasn’t featured for the Reds since the opening-day tie at Craven Cottage with Fulham, but he now appears to be close to returning after suffering a muscular strain.
It is not yet known if he is deemed fit enough to potentially replace Joe Gomez, who partnered Virgil van Dijk in Liverpool’s emphatic 9-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend.
Also, Curtis Jones’s comeback has increased Jurgen Klopp’s options in the midfield. Jones, who pulled up with an issue before the conclusion of the preseason, has not yet played this season.
But his apparent return to full training is timely given that Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Naby Keita all appear to still be out injured.
Summer’s new signing, Calvin Ramsay, is also back in some kind of training. The right-back, who is 19 years old, has been receiving rehabilitation after a minor problem was found during his medical examination.
Harvey Elliott was also spotted in the photos that Liverpool provided, although it wasn’t pretty clear whether he had joined the main group or had been working alone since his weekend precautionary withdrawal from the action.
The youngster was taken off at half-time during the win against Bournemouth, with Klopp later explaining: “Harvey felt just a little bit. In no other game we would take him off but when 5-0 up, we thought if that’s not the moment, then the moment will never come again. Nothing after the game. The assessment is good. He should be completely fine.”
