‘You’re getting sold’ – Liverpool star told he hasn’t helped already depleting team
According to football pundit, Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be a victim if the Reds upgrade their midfield to match the rest of their squad.
Liverpool have strengthened their team depth in recent transfer windows. With the likes of Ibrahima Konate arriving to ensure they have four strong options at centre-back. Then, in January, they acquired Luis Diaz to add yet to their blistering frontline.
However, one area that perhaps still needs reinforcing is midfield. They failed to sign a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum who departed for PSG last summer.
With Harvey Elliott returning from a loan with Blackburn Rovers and making good progress. But overall, there is a lack of consistency from the depth options behind Jurgen Klopp’s preferred midfield trio.
one of such players is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who made a good impression after joining from Arsenal in 2017, but his debut season ended with an injury, after which he has never really been able to rediscover his form.
The England international is yet to complete 90 minutes of any Premier League match since April 2018. He has still managed 29 appearances this season.
Oxlade-Chamberlain started in Liverpool’s victory over Nottingham forest in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, But was taken off just after the hour mark and was visibly not happy about it.
His reaction will not have done him any favours, according to Football InsiderGabby Agbonlahor – who feels Oxlade-Chamberlain’s time at Anfield is running out regardless.
Asked if he will still be a Liverpool player next season, Agbonlahor said: “I don’t think so, to be honest.
“I feel that I look at Liverpool, I look at Man City and I see how Man City have improved their team. They have got the likes of Gundogan and when he plays he’s world-class but when he’s not playing Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden or Bernardo Silva are playing at a world-class level.
“When you see Liverpool rotate their team, the likes of Keita don’t always perform. Oxlade-Chamberlain does not look like he is at the level of Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago.
“In big games, it will be hard for Liverpool if they don’t have their first-choice midfield. Their second-choice midfielders aren’t up to the level Liverpool need to be to stay at the level of Man City.
“Jurgen Klopp will be looking at improving that midfield. I don’t think his reaction makes that much difference, although Klopp may be thinking, do that again and you’re getting sold.”
