Manchester United interested in former arsenal man as a potential replacement for star player

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is on United’s radar and has been a potential transfer target for Manchester United, according to reports.

Martinez has been the first choice for Villa so far this season, having started 17 of their opening 18 Premier League fixtures – following on from a string of consistent performances last year.

Martinez has also kept five clean sheets so far this term to help the Villains to eleventh position in the premier league table.

And United, who have watched Martinez closely on several occasions, consider him a ‘highly suitable’ candidate to be a future No.1 keeper at Old Trafford, according to the Daily Star.

David de Gea is currently United’s No.1, but with his current contract due to expire in 2023, united chiefs are already drawing up plans for if and when he leaves.

However, It is vividly understood that they won’t make a move for Martinez, who could cost up to £50m until the Spain international depart old Trafford.

The 29-year-old isn’t the only player on their shortlist either – they are also keeping tabs on Leeds United wonderkid Illan Meslier.
