£100m Liverpool transfer target gives conditions to join Liverpool as Jurgen klopp look to repeat Luis Diaz transfer strategy

Luis Daz arrives at Anfield in the colors of FC Porto on November 24, 2021, to face Liverpool.

Daz and Porto had already played Liverpool in the Champions League group stage on matchday two in September, but this was his first time at Anfield. He was not only impressed, but he was astounded.

“You can really feel the atmosphere of how the crowd live for the game,” said Díaz after he joined.

“He expressed his excitement at the prospect of donning a red shirt on a European night at the famous stadium.

Jürgen Klopp had also left a positive impression on the Colombian. He observed, “You could tell he was a good person, not only on the football side of things.”

Klopp was impressed by Diaz’s performance against his team and expressed his appreciation for him.

“When we played against Luis earlier this season,” the German recalled, “we saw what a danger he is, how fast he is and how his mentality was to help his team.”

Likewise, the manager and his team may observe him in person. Their concerns were validated right in front of their eyes: Daz would be a big hit in Liverpool.

And it’s possible that a similar story is currently unfolding. Liverpool played Darwin Nez and Benfica, Porto’s domestic rivals, in the Champions League quarter-finals.

In a 3-3 second-leg draw at Anfield, Nez scored the sixth and final goal, caressing the ball past an onrushing Alisson with accuracy.

He’d already scored in the first game, capitalizing on an Ibrahima Konaté error and finishing from close range, and he would have added a third against the Reds if Alisson hadn’t saved his late volley.

Nunez won six of the eight duels he contested, demonstrating his physical aptitude for Premier League football, and working relentlessly out of possession in addition to his goal. Many Liverpool fans demanded that he be signed even before the final whistle blew.

Klopp had already heaped praise on his Uruguayan counterpart. “A very attractive young man who is also a competent player!” he joked. “He played pretty much in front of me with these tough battles with Konaté.

“Physically strong, quick, calm around his finish. Good, really good.”

Klopp added that, if Núñez ‘stays healthy’, he has a ‘big career ahead of him’. But could he spend much of that career at Liverpool?

Nunez has been weighing his choices and, according to a story published by The Independent on Friday, his current preference is to join Liverpool.

He’s also open to a Manchester United offer, but he appears to have been wooed by Liverpool’s environment and personnel in the same way that Daz has been.

The reported £100 million price tag for Benfica is worrisome, but Liverpool will almost certainly be able to haggle it down.

Even if they have to smash their transfer record to get the 22-year-old, Fenway Sports Group has already proven that they are willing to pay top dollar for a generational gamechanger.

Last season, Nunez scored 34 goals in 41 games, including six in the Champions League.
