(VIDEO) Watch: Liverpool’s new signing Arthur Melo in action and what he will bring to Anfield
On the final day of the transfer window, Liverpool made the decision to make a move and sign Arthur Melo from Juventus on a temporary loan.
The fact that Liverpool was considering a midfielder all summer long had been widely rumoured; yet, they eventually chose Arthur.
There was no doubt that the Liverpool team needed to move quickly because of injuries to a number of their midfielders.
What would Arthur contribute to this Liverpool team as he joins on a season-long loan?
The first thing about Arthur to know is the type of player he is.
He came through the Gremio academy in Brazil and made his debut for the club as a teenager in 2015.
After making 70 appearances for Gremio and playing an integral role in their 2017 Copa Libertadores triumph, Barcelona agreed a deal worth around €40million for the Brazilian in 2018.
Arthur signed a six-year deal at Camp Nou and there was plenty of hype surrounding his transfer at the time.
During Arthur’s first season at Barcelona, no midfielder had a higher pass completion rate than he did at 93.5%.
For the most part, Arthur keeps things simple on the ball and you could argue that’s exactly what Liverpool need right now.
Throughout his entire career, he has averaged a pass completion rate of 92.6%, which is higher than any o
Given his previous history of injuries, Liverpool will undoubtedly be cautious when it comes to his playing time, but at this point in his career, he has to be on the field more often than not.
As he will want to push his claim for a spot in Brazil’s World Cup team this winter, Arthur will be more determined than ever to get started at Liverpool.
He has played 22 times for his nation overall, although 20 of those games came in 2018 and 2019.

(VIDEO) Watch: Fans erupt after Kai Haverzt goal against Liverpool was disallowed
After VAR overturned Kai Havertz’s early goal for Chelsea against Liverpool, the place erupted.
After three minutes, Havertz scored from a corner at Anfield after some shoddy defending by Liverpool. Havertz was called upon to slam the ball home on the second try after Thiago Silva originally hit the post.
However, the goal was disallowed because the German was determined to be offside by VAR even though it appeared that he was onside when scoring. This sparked outrage from Chelsea supporters who insisted Havertz was behind.
The Blues faithful flocked to Twitter to share their fury at the decision that kept the scores equal. One fan raged: “That is the most egregious use of VAR I’ve ever seen – how has that been disallowed when Havertz is behind Thiago silva.”
Another supporter fumed: “Would love to see those lines, havertz looked clearly behind Silva’s front knee. Funny how VAR never works properly at Anfield.”
A third called for the goal analysis technology to be scrapped, and said: “How was that offside? When Thiago shot the ball, Havertz was behind him. Boycott VAR.”

Replays did appear to show Havertz’s foot just ahead of the ball, despite being behind Silva, though it’s the second controversial VAR decision that’s aided Liverpool in recent weeks, following the system ruling out Wolves’ winner against the Reds when Toti Gomes’ last-minute winner was ruled offside as no camera angles were covering the goal.
And fans referenced the situation to show how the system has conveniently favoured Liverpool, with one fan saying: “VAR of course conveniently turned on at Anfield this time. Guessing they had the right camera angle this time.”
Then another user quipped: “It wouldn’t be Liverpool vs Chelsea if VAR didn’t rule out our goals.” Both sides are in desperate need of a win as they battle to try and get into the race for European football after a poor Premier League campaign so far.

(VIDEO) Watch : Highlights of Darwin Nunez vs AC Milan as the Uruguay star bags a brace
Darwin Nunez’s World Cup struggles are nothing to worry Liverpool fans, as the Uruguayan was in top form while wearing his club outfit.
In a friendly game against AC Milan, Nunez scored twice in just over 30 minutes of play, demonstrating that despite what occurred in Qatar, he still has his shooting touch.
Before club football was suspended, the striker was starting to resemble the player Liverpool spent up to £84 million on. He finished a respectable run of games with a hat trick against Southampton.
Nunez started all three of Uruguay’s group games in Doha, where they failed to advance to the Round of 16, although he might as well not have been there.
But his World Cup worries were blown away with two goals in six minutes against Serie A champions Milan during a 4-1 win.
The first was a slick finish after an assist from youngster Bobby Clark, before he tapped in a cross by Ben Doak.
Mohamed Salah scored the game’s opener with Thiago scoring the Reds’ other goal with a thunderbolt strike.
The Reds will return to Merseyside before heading to Manchester City for a League Cup clash on December 22.
