Pundit gives a surprise final verdict on Liverpool sealing ‘wonderful’ £105m signing after tabling new bid for £75m Serie A superstar
Midfielder Nicolo Barella of Inter Milan, according to Kevin Campbell, would be “a magnificent signing” for Liverpool.
The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes the Reds will give Jude Bellingham’s signing more priority next summer.
Over the previous several weeks, injuries to Thiago Alcantara, Curtis Jones, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have wreaked havoc on Jurgen Klopp’s team.
When asked about the likelihood of adding a midfield player before the transfer market ends, Klopp responded, “we will see,” as reported by the Liverpool Echo on August 6th.
Any team additions, according to Liverpool’s manager, “must make sense now and in the long-term.”
The Mirror (9 August) reports that the Reds have had a long-standing interest in Nicolo Barella.
The player is valued between £75 and £100 million by Inter Milan.
Campbell responded, “Barella would be a magnificent acquisition, but I cannot see it happening,” when questioned by Football Insider if Barella would be a welcome addition at Anfield.
“I think we all know who Liverpool and Klopp have got their eye on for next season.
“They want [Jude] Bellingham. To bring somebody else in now might muddy the water. I don’t think they will do it unless they get really desperate.
“Let’s be honest, Liverpool have got the bodies. They have enough to see them through the next five or six weeks.
“Yes, they will be linked with the likes of Barella because he is a really good player. The truth is, I don’t see it happening.
“I think the deal Borussia Dortmund is going to be done next summer.”
