Liverpool transfer news today: Liverpool ‘ready’ to trigger midfielder’s release clause for €40m star
According to reports, Liverpool is said to be prepared to join the likes of PSG, a prominent team in Ligue 1, in activating Manuel Ugarte’s release clause in order to secure his signing from Sporting Lisbon.
The team from Anfield is currently being associated with several midfielders as they plan for the upcoming transfer window.
It is expected that Liverpool will sign two or three new players in the midfield position, particularly due to the imminent departures of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose contracts are set to expire.
Liverpool is expected a holding midfielder and a more attacking-minded player. They have several options in mind, including Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, Mason Mount from Chelsea, and Matheus Nunes from Wolves.
Manuel Ugarte has also emerged as a potential target for Liverpool in recent months. He has had a remarkable season, playing 47 matches in all competitions for Sporting Lisbon.

Ugarte is currently under contract until 2026, and there is a release clause of €60 million in his contract. Recent reports suggest that PSG is likely to activate this buy-out option during the upcoming summer transfer window.
The French outfit are still going to face competition in the race for Ugarte, though. Le Parisien (via Sport Witness) are reporting that Liverpool are ‘ready to put €60m on the table as well’.
The report points out that Chelsea would also ‘like’ to trigger Ugarte’s release clause before it is too late.
Liverpool is considering various options for the upcoming summer, and there are rumors linking Romeo Lavia with a potential move to Anfield. Lavia currently plays for Southampton, a team that has had a difficult season, but he has been one of their more reliable players.
According to reports from the Spanish outlet Fichajes, both Liverpool and Chelsea are said to be keen on signing Lavia and could engage in a competitive pursuit for his signature.
It is expected that Southampton will demand around 40 million euros for Lavia, considering him as their valuable asset. Manchester City, Lavia’s former club, has the opportunity to match any offer made for him. However, indications suggest that Pep Guardiola, the City manager, is not interested in re-signing the midfielder.
But Liverpool and Chelsea ‘see great potential in Lavia and believe that he can contribute a lot to their respective teams.
