Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp urged to start £32.3m “technically gifted” star player against Napoli to secure perfect Champions League start
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been asked to start the £32.3 million star player to get off to a flawless Champions League start against Napoli.
With Fabio Carvalho certainly out of Liverpool’s Champions League opening and Jordan Henderson likely out until after the international break with a hamstring injury, Jurgen Klopp will be strongly tempted to turn to James Milner’s background to strengthen his midfield.
The former Borussia Dortmund coach will, however, be fully aware of the necessity to overcome a challenging record against the Italian team away from home if he has been closely observing previous clashes with Napoli.
Victor Osimhen’s likely absence as well as Kalidou Koulibaly’s absence from the defense will undoubtedly be elements that go in our favor, but they shouldn’t be relied upon if we want to win in Italy.
In light of this, Klopp could be wise to start a more technical player in the middle of the park with Fabinho and Harvey Elliott.
Thiago Alcantara would have been our first choice had the Spaniard returned from injury less recently, but Arthur Melo, who we added on loan and who we have a £32.3 million buy-out option for, may perhaps make his club debut.
In order for Jurgen Klopp’s team to succeed in Naples, he will need to include a player who can give us control comparable to what we experienced when our No. 6 was performing at full strength.
While the Merseyside Derby should be viewed as a significant gain for defensive improvements, we simply cannot continue with a subpar midfield performance in the assumption that our veteran midfielder would give us anything more than a steady, dependable performance.
