Latest Update on when Liverpool could return to Premier League action; Liverpool vs Chelsea revealed

Next weekend’s scheduled match between Liverpool and Chelsea at Stamford Bridge is in jeopardy because of The Queen’s burial.

As a show of respect, all Premier League games have been postponed this weekend. The Premier League won’t resume play until a date for The Queen’s funeral is set.

There are serious worries about the match at Stamford Bridge on Sunday because police may not be present in sufficient numbers to oversee the event as they are ready to be used more extensively around the capital.

The good news about the game, according to the Liverpool Echo, came from King Charles III, who said that The Queen’s funeral would be observed by a national holiday, implying that it will probably occur on September 19th.

Given that it is scheduled for the Sunday prior, this would give the game some hope, but given that it is in London, there is little chance of this happening.

The Department of Culture, Media, and Sport has restated its advice, which is still in effect, regarding the staging of Premier League games.

Issuing a statement to football.london, the DCMS said: “Our guidance will stay the same. There’s no obligation to cancel as far as the government is concerned. But it’s ultimately up to the Premier League and EFL to make those decisions.”

Sky Sports, who has provided an update on the issue, has stated that the EFL is anticipated to continue on Tuesday and finish out their midweek round of games.

They add that it is hoped that top-flight games will take place the next weekend, but that the decision may be made game by game, potentially affecting only games in London.

King Charles’ remarks are the biggest encouragement that Liverpool’s match against Chelsea can take place next Sunday, but the fact that the match is taking place in London appears to be the strongest factor.

The Reds, however, might shortly return to Premier League action if police are available.
