Jurgen Klopp gives verdict on Liverpool title chances after win over Southampton

Liverpool secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Southampton at the Saint Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday night.

The host took the lead early in the first half through Nathan Redmond. But Takumi Minamino’s equaliser and Joel Matip’s looping header goal ensured the Reds kept their Premier League title hopes alive till the last day.

Jurgen Klopp was asked to comment on the Premier League title race after his team’s hard-fought win at Southampton keeps them one point behind Manchester City.

Klopp said (via Sky Sports): “It is possible, not likely but possible. That is enough.

“Of course, it is unlikely because City plays at home against Aston Villa, who play only on Thursday. It will be tough against Burnley, they fight for survival.

“But it is football. I think the time when City became champion [in 2019] it was because of 11 millimetres. If someone wants us to be champion then we have to win first and Aston Villa needs to get a point at City.”

Liverpool will win the Premier League if they beat Wolves in their final game and Steven Gerrard’s side can beat Man City. Now they can only hope for the best.
