Captain Martin Odegaard’s early brace propelled the visitors to the top of the Premier League as Arsenal cruised to win against Bournemouth.
The defender scored his first goal for the team as the Gunners maintained their unblemished start to the new season with a wonderful goal from William Saliba to complete their 3-0 victory at the Vitality Stadium.
Odegaard gave Arsenal the lead after just 11 seconds, marking the first time since scoring twice for Stromsgodset in October 2014 that the Norwegian international has placed Arsenal ahead.
As Arsenal sat at the bottom of the table without a point or goal at this point in the previous season, Mikel Arteta was facing calls to have his job removed.
While Gabriel Jesus, a summer acquisition, did not add to his goal total on the south coast, he was once more crucial in the team’s dramatic turn around in fortunes.
And that is it. In the end, Arsenal won with ease.
Odegaard’s two goals in the first half and Saliba’s incredible second-half goal were sufficient. Despite making gains in the second half, Bournemouth was outmatched in this game.
With nine points out of nine, Arsenal moves to the top of the Premier League standings.
All very different from the previous year, when they dropped their opening three contests and Mikel Arteta was in the most precarious of situations.

(Video) Liverpool teammates can’t believe what Mo Salah just did in training
Mo Salah’s form has been a little patchy of late amid ongoing difficulties across the board for Liverpool on the pitch.
However, if a single shooting exercise during practice is any indication, it’s possible that the Egyptian King will soon be back to his terrifyingly effective best in front of goal as we press for a top-four push.
When the forward grabbed a lofted ball on the volley and placed his effort in the top-right corner, his teammates cheered in admiration.
"Here we go… Thank you!" 😅
Stop that, @MoSalah 👏 pic.twitter.com/BWs5BUH7sa

Eddie Nketiah bagged an injury-time winner to send Arsenal five points clear at the top of the Premier League table as the gunners secured a stunning 3-2 win over Manchester United.
Nketiah netted twice, either side of a Bukayo Saka stunner, while Marcus Rashford netted a wonderful solo goal of his own before Lisandro Martinez equalised for the visitors in the second half.
Mike Arteta’s side came out the blocks quickest in the opening 15 minutes with United hardly having a touch of the ball in their opponent’s final third, but it was the visitors who soon took the lead against the run of play with a moment of magic from Rashford.
Having picked up the ball in the middle of the pitch, he nutmegged Thomas Partey before dribbling forward and unleashing a fierce low-shot from 20 yards that flew past Aaron Ramsdale.
But Arsenal are a team that don’t roll over anymore and that fighting spirit was clear for all to see as Nketiah had them level just seven minutes later.
Some neat team build-up play led to Granit Xhaka putting in a delightful cross to the back post where Nketiah headed home unmarked from close range with right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka caught napping.
Saka had tormented England teammate Luke Shaw all match and on 53 minutes he cut inside his man and drilled a stunning shot into De Gea’s far post right into the bottom left corner to put them in front.
United weren’t letting the league leaders take three points without putting up a fight of their own though, as Martinez reacted quickest to head home from a corner that Ramsdale flapped at.
Nketiah provided an instinctive finish to poke the ball past De Gea from Odegaard’s goal-bound effort and spark a frenzy inside the Emirates Stadium.
