DEAL AGREED! – Fabrizio Romano confirmed Liverpool star has now agreed to join Brighton

Liverpool veteran James Milner has verbally agreed to sign for Brighton this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

The 37-year-old’s contract at Anfield is set to expire at the end of the current season, freeing him up to leave the club as a free agent.

Football Insider sources revealed on Thursday (4 May) that Milner is set to leave Liverpool this summer, with Brighton in pole position to sign him.

It is understood that Roberto De Zerbi’s side have moved quickly and are now in advanced talks with Milner’s camp after he verbally agreed to join ahead of the start of the 2023/24 season.

Milner is currently spending his eighth year at Liverpool after completing a free transfer to the Reds from Manchester City in 2015.

Throughout his time at Anfield, Milner has made 328 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 26 goals and providing 46 assists.

Despite his age, Milner has remained an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, making 39 appearances – including 11 starts – across all competitions for a total of 1,152 minutes.

He will depart Liverpool this summer having helped the club to win the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, Uefa Super Cup and the Fifa World Cup.

Klopp has frequently expressed his admiration for Milner, and the German coach even suggested that none of Liverpool’s recent success would have happened had he not been at the club.

“He’s a role model,” said Klopp. “I have told him, I can tell the whole world – nothing we have achieved in the last few years would have happened without James Milner, it’s as easy as that.”
