Arsenal vs Liverpool Carabao cup in Danger of being called off after training session is suspended
Arsenal vs Liverpool Carabao cup in Danger of being called off after training session is suspended.
There are fears over Liverpool’s League cup clash against Arsenal being in danger of being postponed due to an outbreak of covid-19 in the Reds camp.
Jurgen Klopp missed Liverpool’s game against Chelsea last week after testing positive for covid-19, also goalkeeperĀ Alisson, defender Joel Matip and striker Roberto Firmino returned suspected positive tests.
The German is set to miss the trip to the Emirates Stadium if it takes place on Thursday, also Alisson, Matip, and Firmino are also expected to be ruled out of the game.
Given that Alisson is likely to miss out once again, Liverpool would run a high risk that their game might have to be postponed if they lose another goalkeeper.
The EFL, which runs the Carabao Cup, says games can be postponed if teams cannot send a team of 13 outfield players and a goalkeeper.
Liverpool’s training session on Tuesday, scheduled for 4 pm, is speculated to have been canceled due to more positive Covid cases at the camp.
According to reports Liverpool and EFL officials have been in contact, but there has been no request from the Merseyside club to cancel the game, meaning it is still going ahead as planned.
If the game is postponed it will also mean that Liverpool’s FA Cup clash at home to Shrewsbury on Sunday is at risk.
Pep Lijnders will lead the team to the Emirates Stadium, with the second leg of the semi-final tie scheduled for next Thursday at Anfield.
Liverpool’s squad is already weakened by the absences of Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Naby Keita who are on international duties for their various countries at the African Cup of Nations.
Thiago Alcantara is also injured with a hip problem, while Takumi Minamino was ruled out of the Chelsea game with a muscle problem.
