How many teams make the NBA playoffs
The NBA playoffs are an exciting time of year for basketball fans all around the world. The top teams in each conference battle it out for a chance to win the NBA championship. But just how many teams make the playoffs each year? Let’s take a closer look.
The Structure of the NBA
First off, it’s important to understand the structure of the NBA. The league is divided into two conferences, the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference. Each conference consists of 15 teams, for a total of 30 teams in the NBA.
During the regular season, each team plays 82 games, 41 at home and 41 on the road. At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs. This means that 16 teams in total make the playoffs each year.
The playoff seeding is determined by the regular-season record of each team. The team with the best record in each conference is awarded the #1 seed, the team with the second-best record is awarded the #2 seed, and so on.
Once the teams are seeded, the playoffs begin. The playoffs are a best-of-seven series, with the higher-seeded team hosting games 1, 2, 5, and 7. The lower-seeded team hosts games 3, 4, and 6.
The playoffs are broken down into four rounds: the first round, the conference semifinals, the conference finals, and the NBA Finals. In each round, teams play a best-of-seven series, with the first team to win four games advancing to the next round.
The first round of the playoffs features the #1 seed playing the #8 seed, the #2 seed playing the #7 seed, the #3 seed playing the #6 seed, and the #4 seed playing the #5 seed. The winners of the first-round series advance to the conference semifinals.
In the conference semifinals, the #1 seed plays the lowest remaining seed, while the #2 seed plays the other remaining team in their conference. The winners of these series advance to the conference finals.
In the conference finals, the winners of the two semifinal series play each other in a best-of-seven series. The winner of each conference advances to the NBA Finals.
The NBA Finals is a best-of-seven series between the Eastern Conference champion and the Western Conference champion. The first team to win four games is crowned the NBA champion.
conclusion
Sixteen teams make the NBA playoffs each year, with eight teams from each conference. The playoffs are broken down into four rounds, with each round featuring a best-of-seven series. The team with the best regular-season record in each conference is awarded the #1 seed, and the playoffs ultimately determine the NBA champions
