Jurgen Klopp gives latest Diogo Jota update as Liverpool injuries mount
Jurgen Klopp is worried about the latest injury blow to his team, as Liverpool are waiting to find out the full extent of Diogo Jota’s injury.
Jota suffered an injury in the last minutes of regulation time after the Reds defeated Manchester City 1-0 at Anfield on Sunday night after.
The Portugal international was sidelined for the first six games of the season due to injury, and his most recent setback occurred one week after Luis Diaz was diagnosed with a knee issue that will keep him out for six to eight weeks.
Today, the full extent of Jota’s injury is expected to be made public, with Klopp stating that his player was in “real pain” as a result of the incident.
“We miss the next one with Diogo. He felt real pain in that moment but I have no idea how bad it is,’ Klopp told Sky Sports. ‘If Diogo stays down it is not good.”
During his post-match press conference, Klopp added: Diogo…I wish I wouldn’t have to talk about it.
“I saw it inside on the screen, I’m the first who saw it, when he goes down there is not a lot of contact.
“I can see a little bit [that] someone kicks his foot and then maybe the muscle got overstretched.
“After 96 minutes that is not good for a muscle, he felt it immediately and now we have to wait [to see] how bad it is.”
With eight games coming up in the next 27 days, another injury to Jota will not only complicate Liverpool’s plans but also seriously jeopardize the forward’s chances of competing for Portugal at the World Cup.
