Pep Guardiola takes a dig at Liverpool and blames two stars for defeat

Pep Guardiola has hit out at the decision to disallow Manchester City’s goal against Liverpool on Sunday.

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has criticized VAR for denying his team a goal against Liverpool. Mohamed Salah’s late goal at Anfield put an end to City’s perfect start to the season, and Guardiola has blasted two of his players for their part in the winning goal.

Early in the second half, City believed they had grabbed the lead. After some excellent effort from Erling Haaland, Phil Foden managed to sneak the ball into the goal from a tight angle.

But VAR suggested that referee Anthony Taylor look into a Haaland and Fabinho-related incident. The goal was disallowed when Taylor determined that the Norwegian forward had fouled Fabinho during the buildup.

Asked what he thought of the decision, Guardiola told beIN SPORTS: “It’s Anfield. It’s Anfield.”

liGuardiola insisted Taylor let a lot of fouls go during the 90 minutes but bemoaned the fact Foden’s effort was disallowed. He added: “Do you know how many fouls there were in the game? Do you know how many? A lot. It’s one more.

“Kevin didn’t follow the transition and Joao lost the duel, and we lost with one action. But in general, the game was really good.”

When asked about Cancelo in particular, Guardiola said: “He will learn, he will learn. From the situation, he will learn for the future.”

Man City will host Brighton in their next Premier League game as they look to bounce back from the defeat to Liverpool.
