“He won’t ” – Liverpool tipped to beat Man City to Jude Bellingham after revelation from Merseyside pundit
Journalist Frank McAvennie is certain Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham will choose Liverpool over Man City.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Bellingham is not guaranteed a regular starting spot at the Etihad.
According to journalist James Pearce, reported in the Athletic (21 September), Pep Guardiola’s side still retains a strong interest in the 19-year-old.
Several top European clubs are interested in signing him, including Liverpool, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Man United all keen on a move for the England international.
The former Birmingham player is valued at over £130million by the Bundesliga club, and If he goes for that fee it would make him the most expensive footballer in British history.
Speaking to Football Insider on his view of the latest, McAvennie said: “He won’t go to City.
“He’s not guaranteed a first-team start there. A player like Bellingham needs to play. If he goes to Liverpool he’ll go straight into the team.
“A player like Bellingham needs to feel wanted. He needs to play, he needs to feel loved, he’s not going to get that at Man City when you’ve got [Kevin] De Bruyne and players like that in midfield.
Jack Grealish went there for £100million and he’s not getting a game every week, he never missed a game at Aston Villa.
“He’s not going to play all the time. Unless he’s happy to go there and sit around, but I don’t think he’ll do that. I think he’ll want to play every week because that’s what he’s doing at Dortmund.
“I would rule out Man City. No matter how much money they offer you, they can’t guarantee a first-team start, there are too many players there.
Only De Bruyne and [Erling] Haaland are guaranteed a start. I just can’t see him starting every game if he goes to Man City so I would rule it out.“
