Liverpool transfer news: Matheus Nunes price tag set with clause as Reds delay deal
The beginning of Liverpool’s new Premier League campaign has not gone as well as Jurgen Klopp and his team had hoped.
On the first day of the season, a difficult trip to newly promoted Fulham saw the Red settle for a 2-2 draw, thanks to late equaliser by record signing Darwin Nunez.
With a number of injuries, Klopp will now manage his team in their second match against Crystal Palace on Monday night.
The Reds manager has been certain there won’t be any more additions before the transfer deadline, but he appeared to lighten his tone as the injuries increased, indicating one more game may be on the horizon. The most recent Liverpool transfer can be seen below.
Sporting Lisbon is preparing for life without midfielder Matheus Nunes, but they are keen on safeguarding their long-term objectives.
Several Premier League teams are keeping tabs on the 23-year-old, with Wolves expressing the most interestst ahead of Man City. Liverpool is also interested, but a transfer isn’t seen as urgent right now, according to Sky Germany.
However, given Liverpool’s need for a midfielder and a report from Sky that Sporting are prepared to trade for about €35 million provided a sell-on provision is written into the contract, that may soon alter.
According to UOL, Nunes has already rejected a bid from West Ham for that sum because he wants to work on a bigger project in England.
After Joel Matip’s injury, Liverpool has chosen to delay approving a new loan deal for Sepp van den Berg.
The defensive crisis that the Reds faced two seasons ago, will be all too well remembered by Reds fans with injuries to Matip and Ibrahima Konate have already left them short at the back.
Blackburn Rovers, Burnley, Sheffield United, and Watford were among the Championship teams that have inquired about Van den Berg, who stood out during a short spell at Preston North End last year.
But Liverpool will now hold off on making a decision about letting him go on loan for the season until closer to the end of the transfer window.
