“I will wait for Liverpool”- Portugal International declares interest in playing for Liverpool
Portugal and Sporting Lisbon star midfielder Matheus Nunes is reportedly willing to wait for a transfer to Liverpool.
The 23-year-old is regarded as one of the brightest young players in European football, Nunes can provide Liverpool’s ageing midfield a long-term fix.
The Portuguese international has impressed not only for Sporting in his home nation but also on the Champions League group stage in Europe.
According to a report from Correio da Manha, claimed that Nunes is holding out for an approach from Liverpool, as he wants to compete for silverware and play in the Champions League, amid interest from Premier League club Wolves.
With Jordan Henderson, Thiago, and James Milner all already in their 30s, reinforcements are required for the Liverpool midfield even if Nunes doesn’t become a regular starter immediately after moving to Anfield.
However, the Reds have Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliot developing, but those two are more accomplished midfielders than Nunes, who prefers to sit deeper and exert control.
If Nunes is interested in moving to Anfield, it makes sense to pursue a move this summer or next, since he should still have at least 10 years left to compete at the best level at his age.
