“He’s the one” – watch Jurgen klopp urged to make perfect summer signing as Paul Merson names the top target Liverpool FC are ‘crying out for’
Paul Merson believes that the current transfer window is still too early for Liverpool FC to add midfield reinforcements.
According to Paul Merson, a former Arsenal player, Liverpool FC are “crying out” for a new midfield addition this summer.
The Merseyside club moved quickly to sign Darwin Nunez, Calvin Ramsay, and Fabio Carvalho at the beginning of the transfer window, marking the beginning of the Reds’ summer spending spree.

Jude Bellingham is Liverpool’s top target
In addition, Liverpool FC moved to decide Mohamed Salah’s future after he renewed his three-year contract with the Merseyside club this month.
The quick and decisive action taken by Liverpool FC during the transfer window is sure to have pleased Jurgen Klopp, who wants to lead the Reds to another Premier League title push the following season.
However, former Arsenal and England star Merson feels that the Reds are lacking in midfield and contends that a move for a player like Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham would make sense.
This is despite the club’s quick work thus far in the summer transfer window.
Merson stated the following in his Sportskeeda column:
“I think Liverpool are crying out for a midfield player. I don’t think their midfield is strong enough.
“Jude Bellingham is a good player, and I think he would be a great signing.
“Liverpool are currently relying solely on their full-backs for energy. Thiago’s not a box-to-box midfielder, and Jordan Henderson is another year older.
“They need legs in midfield, and Jude Bellingham could be that box-to-box presence for the side.”
Merson added that he thought the Reds were taking a chance by letting star striker Sadio Mane leave the team this summer and sign with Bayern Munich.
In 34 Premier League games for the Reds last season, Mane, 30, scored 16 goals and provided two assists as they finished second behind champions Manchester City.
“They’re taking a big chance by letting Sadio Mane leave the club,” Merson continued.
“He’s scored big goals for Liverpool. If Darwin Nunez doesn’t settle in quickly, Liverpool’s title race could be over in a New York minute!
“They came back and closed the gap with City last season, but they still didn’t win the Premier League, did they?
“Both Liverpool and Nunez need to hit the ground running in August. The other teams didn’t know Luis Diaz when he first joined Liverpool they’ll have plans in place to stop him now.
“I’m a bit worried for Liverpool at the moment.
