Thomas Tuchel sends warning message to Liverpool ahead of Premier League clash.
Chelsea title race suffered a huge setback as they conceded an added-time goal in the 1-1 draw against Brighton at Stamford Bridge and Tuchel has insisted his players are ” exhausted”
Thomas Tuchel was in no mood to anticipate Chelsea’s clash with Liverpool after seeing his side lose more ground in the title race following the draw with Brighton.
The Blues led for over an hour thanks to Romelu Lukaku’s header goal in the 28th minute, but Danny Welbeck came off the bench to snatch a point for the Seagulls in added time.
The 1-1 draw means Chelsea have lost points in three of their last four Premier League games, leaving them eight points behind table-toppers Manchester City.
City were also in action on Wednesday night as they defeated newly promoted Brentford 1-0 to record 10 straight wins in the league.
Chelsea not only lost the chance to close the gap on Pep Guardiola’s side but also saw Reece James and Andreas Christensen pick up injuries on the night.
With Ben Chilwell out of season and James suffering from a hamstring strain, Tuchel declared that he “has no full-backs” during a bitter response to a question ahead of Sunday’s game with Liverpool.
“We need[ed to make] another two changes because of injuries. In the dressing room they are completely exhausted,” the German told Amazon Prime Video.
“It’s the same subject every single match day now. We have two injuries again.
“We have players who normally need to be out after 60 minutes. That’s the point, nothing else. No prognosis. Hamstring injury (Reece James).”
When asked how the draw could affect his teams’ preparation for Liverpool, Tuchel interjected: “No need to look ahead [to the Liverpool game]. Liverpool can try to find players who are ready to play.
“We have no more wing-backs. Everyone’s injured. Players come back from the Covid situation and we are playing, playing, and playing.
“I will always protect my players. First of all, we need to digest this and talk about the next game.”
